Very often, representational painting of the sea captures a relatively brief moment in time. Clearly defined spray or surf reveals pattern or structure; blurred areas imply movement.

Here I chose to contrast the movement of the breaking waves, with the momentarily still waters on the sand – imparting a dreamy poetic feeling to this West Coast seascape.
