An overcast day, gave the volcanic sand and rocks at Tumbledown Bay an almost monochromatic appearance. The painting was in fact completed using only four colours.
This channel of water left as the tide receded, provided a strong diagonal which leads the eye into the painting. A Pipit scurried around as I made studies, so I decided to include one as a compositional aid and a touch of humour.
